Assemble team

The TeamBar is the Assemble-Team strip at the bottom of the ChatBar column. Use it to pick teammates and assistants for a conversation — up to and including group conversations with three or more humans.

The TeamBar is visible when the input is empty or no conversation is open, and fades out while you're actively typing or scrolling. Close the conversation or clear the input to bring it back.

Layout

Two stacked rows, each scrolling horizontally:

  • People — the human teammates in your organization, excluding you.
  • Assistants — every personal Executive Assistant (EA), your own labelled Your EA and rendered first. Teammates' EAs sit under their owner and are labelled <first-name>'s EA. Chiro appears as a standalone tile when present.

Up to seven person-plus-EA pairs are visible at a time; when your own EA is present the visible pair count drops to six to keep the row width consistent. A View all → link appears at the right edge of the Assistants row once there are more pairs than fit; clicking it opens the Team tab.

A search box titled "Find people or assistants..." appears in the top-right once you have more than fourteen contacts loaded. It filters both rows live by name, job title, or EA name.

Starting a conversation

Your own EA is pre-selected on every fresh load — a green checkmark marks its tile. Click additional tiles to toggle them into the selection. Picking a person automatically adds that person's EA; toggle either off afterward if you want just one.

Type your first message in the ChatBar and send. A conversation opens with every selected participant.

The Clear button beside the Assemble Team heading empties the selection when nothing is open; your EA is then re-added automatically on the next render.

Adding to an open conversation

With a conversation open, hovering a tile surfaces a small plus icon. Clicking adds the person or assistant — a toast confirms <name> added to conversation. Adding a person also includes their EA. Tiles already in the conversation are shown as greyed, bordered, and non-clickable.

Group conversations with 3+ humans

Select three or more people and, optionally, any mix of their EAs or Chiro; the resulting conversation is a group conversation. The workspace recognises this automatically when three or more humans are active: the ChatBar header switches to a participant-chip layout and a Leave Conversation action appears in the Participants panel. Group conversations are first-class — always on, no feature flag.

Inside a conversation, @ opens a dropdown titled "Mention assistant" listing mentionable assistants, with ↑↓ to navigate • Enter to select • Esc to cancel as a keyboard hint. Assistants added as observers read silently and respond only when addressed or mentioned.

Details worth knowing

  • Contacts are sorted with your own EA first, then by most recent conversation activity, then alphabetically.
  • Invited-but-not-active members and members who haven't finished their team-member profile do not appear.
  • The Team Directory row's per-user message button is gated on FEATURES.HUMAN_TO_HUMAN_CHAT, which is on in production.
